Every single time I’ve been asked to go into a classroom and “teach” behavior management strategies to teachers, I’ve found one big thing missing … a PLAN for student engagement.
Active, meaningful engagement decreases the need for behavior management. That’s the bottom line. What I’ve come to know, however, is that many teachers plan for INSTRUCTION, not ENGAGEMENT. That’s the disconnect! Active engagement exists in that place where there is a plan to merge the WHO we are teaching to the WHAT we are teaching. This becomes the HOW we are teaching. In the slides below, there are some things to consider. Enjoy and employ!
