“No matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.”
— Maya Angelou
I thought about this quote as I watched a young man eulogize his mother. I have seen first-hand the deep and abiding love, the connectedness, and respect they had for each other. My heart broke for him as he took on this tremendous task, but guess what? He spoke of joy coming tomorrow. He spoke of love. He spoke of legacy. He was reminding us, and perhaps himself, that life, indeed, goes on and that it gets better.
And here’s the thing:
In the “getting better,” love is not diminished; it expands.
In the “getting better,” the one who departs remains (Her other son reminded us of this). Through legacy, spirit, and memories.
In the “getting better,” there will be more tears,
but
because of precious moments, joyful times, lessons taught,
seeds that were sown will come to fruition.
Life will indeed go on.
Tomorrow will come
and
tomorrow will be better.
