Intentional Teaching Chart

What is it?

A reflective tool used to analyze your teaching praxis and to use to guide collegial conversations about school-wide or grade level practices. The guiding question of this tool is “To what degree are the structures and practices implemented in my classroom matching my intentions in using them?”

How is it done?

  • In column 1, write the teaching practices or structure you and your team decide to reflect upon.
  • Reflect, in writing, upon columns 2 and 3 separately.
  • Share similarities and differences in implementation of the chosen structure or practice. Its intent, its outcomes, etc.
  • Brainstorm instructional changes you would need to make for optimal effectiveness of the practice. This might include observations, demonstrations, etc. from your peers; using different materials, rearranging some things in the classroom,  abandoning the practice, etc.
